hi,
im a newbie to this world of video and audio editing. my question is i created a video and render in vegas to main concept MPEG-2 (DVDA video stream). when i import this video file to DVDA, finish up my project and when i click "make DVD", its re-render the video file again even thought it is less than 4 Gig. is this normal? why does DVDA have to re-render again when Vegas already rendered the video. is there any ways around to make DVDA not rendering the video?

much appreciated.

It's difficulty to pinpoint the problem, because you haven't supplied the format of your video or the encoding settings that you're using.

However, in general, if you use the Main Concept MPEG-2 DVD Architect NTSC video stream template, your video shouldnt require recompression, as long as it's not too large a file to fit on DVD. If you use this template, you'll also have to perform a second render to AC-3 audio. This is a much shorter process which will enable you to avoid having to render the audio in DVDA.

If this doesn't work, c'mon back with more details about what you've tried, and somebody will help you out.

added note: Please pardon the assumption that you're an NTSC user and substitute PAL where necessary.

hi cbrillow,
here is a detail of what i did.

1. i render the video in Main Concept MPEG-2/DVD Architect NTSC Video Stream template.
2. i rendered AC3 audio file separated.
3. both video and audio files were authored in DVDA 2.0

but when i click make dvd, DVDA still render again even though the file is not exceed 4.7 gig disc. why is that? please advice and help.

thanks.

p.s. also, i saw another option, for the template DVD Architect 24p NTSC Video Stream, what is the different without the 24p?

Are you sure it's rendering again or is it "preparing", which can still take quite a while. If DVDA is rendering it will probably take longer than Vegas did.

Dumb but necessary question #2: Are you sure it's rendering the video and not just the menus? How long does it take? Even if a menu is fully DVD compliant, it will have to be re-rendered if you add text or images to it in DVDA.

'Cause as far as the video itself, it sounds to me like you took all the right steps. Go to File -> Optimized DVD -- what do you see? If you did everything right, you should see all green checkmarks (except for next to the menus).
