Render mpeg2 (NTSC DVD template) audio out of sync

Hi all,

Can someone help me to solve the audio out of sync problem when I rendered 20 minutes DV video to mpeg2 (NTSC DVD template). The audio out of sync appears at about 10 minutes mark worse at the end (looks like audio is ahead of video .5 sec or more at the end).

My DV input is 32kHz 16 bit audio so I set the audio property in the project setting to 32kHz 16 bit ( also had tried 48kHz in the properties setting).

There is no problem when I preview it in Vegas preview windows. I am clueless now.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Hien.

Oh I forgot to mention that my DV file is a passthrough captured via Sony TRV11.

If it's no prblems viewing it in the Vegas preview window, where are you viewing it & it is a problem, burned to disc & in set top player ? burned to disc and on PC ?
Playback of file from hard drive on PowerDVD or Media Player ?

Both playback with PowerDVD XP and burn to XSVCD then playbacks with DVD player. Does vegas have a similar audio interleave setting on the media export every (frame or 1/2 sec or 1sec) as Adobe Premiere 6.01.

Thanks, Hien.

I'm not sure about that, but the only time I have encountered the problem you are having is with the sampling rate causing the problem. If you use DVD spec files in DVD authoring software it will ideally want to be 48khz for PCM. If it's input as anything else the authoring software will have to convert to that. If you have incorrect sampling rate you see exactly what you are, audio goes out of sync more progressively through movie. But you say you tried 48khz.
MPEG-1 layer 2 audio (which is the multiplexed audio in a MPEG-2 file) can be 44.1khz so try that smapling rate.

Have you tried any other encoders ?
If not try TMPGEnc.

Here are a couple of links about repairing video/audio sync problems in MPEG files.

http://www.vcdhelp.com/faq.htm#synch

http://www.vcdhelp.com/sync.htm

TMPGEnc has the tools you we need for these workarounds. If you don't have TMPGEnc (& it is a very good free encoder) you can get it here.

For advice on settings see here

vonhosen,

Thanks for your help. I fixed my audio sync problem by changing the media source Timecode property to 'non-drop frame 29.97', also set the project audio setting to 32khz (to match with the source), and render NTSC DVD with slightly change audio mpeg layer 2 to 44.1khz instead of 48khz (I am not making DVD, I am making XSVCD). This gave me great result.

Thanks, Hien.
