Render-no audio-sometimes

I have a nagging nuisance with MS 3.0b. When I render to avi, I sometimes have no audio. This is random. I can do the rendering again right away, not changing anything on the computer, and the audio is fine. (I've held off downloading the MS 4 update (I guess that's the next one after 3.0b) because of some of the other problems in it I've read about in the forum.)

Is it possible you're working from MPEG files? Others have found that some MPEG codecs produce audio files that don't play well with some video editing programs.

No, I'm loading off of DV tapes directly into MS, or picking up avi file segments already on hard drive, and rendering to avi.

I was having this same problem when I first started using VMS 4.0. To solve it, I had to go into the preferences and uncheck the "close media files when not the active application". For some reason, VMS was disregarding the audio, and rendering only the video.

I was having the same problem (MS 4.0a) and the trick I tried, that worked at least when I tried it, was to display the entire timeline before rendering. What I'm not sure of is whether this solved the problem or did it just 'work' because I had also closed and re-invoked MS.

I did not try unchecking the 'Close media files when not the active application' preference setting.

I don't know what's going on but this is certainly a nuisance.
