Render Question for DVD

dtudela wrote on 5/29/2009, 2:33 PM
I am from Winslow, Maine and preparing a DVD for a German exchange student residing with us for the past year. She would like a DVD that will play on her player back home. I am familiar with editing in Vegas and rendering to MPEG 2, etc. However, I am unsure how to prepare the DVD so it can be used in Germany. Is it as simple as rendering to PAL or are there additional steps I need to take? Thanks for your help!

Render as PAL, and also set up the DVD Architect project as PAL. You'll be all set.

However, most European players can play NTSC discs better than Vegas/DVDA can produce PAL discs. I'd suggest sending her copies in both formats and then she can see which one looks better on her TV.

I have family in Italy and they seem to have no trouble laying DVDs I produce here in North America
Are not all DVDs MPEG-2?

Kelly knows better.
Listen to him.

Thanks for the tip. It makes good sense to prepare the DVD both ways.

Yes, they're all MPEG-2, but MPEG-2 comes in many different formats and sizes.

Dan, it's the NTSC vs. PAL (720x480 60i vs. 720 x 576 50i) issue.
Having said that, most European video equipment has been multi-standard capable for several years now which is why they can play NTSC DVDs without problems.
