Render Regions to multiple clips ???

Here's one thing I've never done before so I'm wondering if it's possible ...

Using the trimmer, I've highlighted sections of my longer clips and put just those sections on my timeline. Now what I want to do is re-render all those highlighted areas ( regions ) and have them render out as a series of new clips using just one render.

It's almost like DV Scene Detection but in reverse. I want to render out a bunch of trimmed clips as several smaller clips in one pass.

Ya get me ? Is this possible ?

"Ya get me ?" . .er yeah I guess so. But Stan what are you trying to achieve?

What I'm hearing is that you've got clips that are captured. Nothing has happened to them - yeah? Why bother to render? Ok .. If you want a separate BAtch Event Render script . .? The oterh thing I've just thought of is that when one does a Pre-Render you a whole series of tiny clips .. but I think these "straddle" event edges . . so maybe that aint a route. Guess it is going to be an Batch Event render script.

Neon has the facility to render regions, so I guess if you made regions out of the Events you could do it. And you can use region NAMES as filenems. Stan - I still wanna know why you would want to render that which you have done anything too?

Reason for this is, I want to give someone some clips to use from my original DV files. But I don't want to include the entire "take". The camera shakes, the models breaking up laughing at the end of a take. That kind of stuff I want to clip out and render the remaining good stuff to separate clips as NTSC DV clips that I'll put on a DVD disc.

I belive this can provide about 18 minutes of raw DV footage on a 4.7 DVD disc...all of useful footage and not "outtakes."

Batch render Script - I think part of the V5 install?

1/- Make regions of all the clips

2/- Tools>Scripting>Batch Render

3/- Fire Up Batch render

4/- Create BASE name for files and location for files to be render to

5/- Select Options

6/- Go make a cuppa tea .. or whatever . . .

I'd do triming in trimmmer and create my regions there. Then import Regions onto T/L

DONE!

Stonefield, this can be done via scripting but NOT from the trimmer. You would have to select the proper areas on the TIMELINE. The asset collector wizard in Neon would let you render each region to a new file. Other rendering tools are also available that will do this.

If you would prefer sub-clips instead of actual new files (would prevent doubling the disk space required) the Extract Good Clips would quickly create a series of sub-clips.

I believe everything you are wanting to do is possible, just not quite the way you are wanting to do them.

Actually I'm ok with creating copies of the clips as what I'll do is create a master folder to put these copied/trimmed clips into. When that approaches 4.7 gigs, that's DVD One. Then on to the next.

I know this seems like a weird thing to want to do but trust me, it's just part of a much larger project I'm working on.

Something cool...

UPDATE ****

Grazie !!! That's it buddy !!! You did it...that's exactly what I wanted. Batch Render the regions I've highlighted on the timeline into several clips in selected folder. If you find yourself in Vancouver Canada, first pint's on me.

Yeah right! - If you find yourself in London the first pint is STILL on you! Hahah!

Pleasure . . I was also wanting for you to have an option to "easily" create and name Regions - After getting a flea in my ear from Edward, I was reminded of the virtues of Neon, this at a time when I'm up to my arse in a 30 hour non-scripted or storyboarded project that I shot over the past 6 months - argghhhh!

However, your request provided not only a diversion but also an opportunity to experiment and think sideways about my own project. I've got 60 odd interviews that I'm gonna make - I think - into a kinda video wall - kinda Tower of Babel - yeah yeah I know it has been done before . . in fact all things have been done before. But THIS time the client and the audience will have it being done for them and TO them . . THAT'S the big difference.

Now let me think . . . .hmmmm . .models . .. CVs .. . raw & editable footage on a publishable format? Now what could this mean? . . . Intriguing Stan!

Glad to have been of help . .. Sorry I meant to ask! DID you use the Batch Render script that comes with V5? Neat and powerful script - yes?

Grazie

ps: We meet ANYWHERE in the WOrld - you're still buying the first pint!
