Render Same Project w/ Same Settings on 2 Computers - Different Output

seb-j wrote on 6/28/2017, 1:52 AM

I got a new computer and wanted to compare render times. So I rendered the exact same project with the exact same settings on both computers.

Vegas Pro 14 on Windows 10
Settings: MainConcept {Audio: 192 Kbps, 48,000 Hz, 16 Bit, Stereo, AAC
Video: 25 fps, 1280x720 Progressive, YUV, 12 Mbps
Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.000}

[see below as to why YUV is bolded]

However, the output video on my older computer was noticeably superior. The files were almost identical size (88 MB v 87 MB - it was only a 1 minute video), however the older computer's render appeared similar quality to the source video, while the newer computer's render was flatter, duller etc.

I tested this 6 times with different projects and each time the older computer's renders were significantly better quality. Note the newer computer has better specs {i7 7700hq, 32GB RAM, 1050Ti vs. AMD FX-7600P, 8GB RAM, Radeon R5} and I compared the quality of the videos on the same computer by transferring them. There is no doubting the quality is different.

I checked the render settings several times (including all check boxes etc) and they are indeed identical. The only difference I could find is that the newer computer does not list YUV in the Format section of Custom Settings. If you think this is causing the discrepancy, please tell me how to get YUV on my new computer.

Any help here would be much appreciated. I obviously really want to get using my new computer. Thanks people.

What GPU us in your old and new computer? Have you tried rendering on both computers with no GPU acceleration at all?

The new one is a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti and the old was is an AMD Radeon R5 M230. I haven't tried that yet so thanks for the suggestion. I am currently reinstalling Vegas Pro on the new one (again), but I'll try that afterwards.

The mention of YUV and flatter/duller makes me wonder if Studio RGB v Computer RGB could be involved?

Amazingly, the second reinstall worked! Both computers now produce the same quality render (the new computer in literally 1/4 the time though). Thanks anyway OldSmoke and EricLNZ.
