Render Settings Question

Probably a simple solution, but for the life of me, I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong in the rendering process so that the people in the video don't look too wide (and I don't get smacked for making people look fat). My goal is simply to make quality DVD (not BluRay) disks of the project.

I shot in regular widescreen 16x9 (but not 24p) with my HD camera.
My properties setting in Vegas 6 is: NTSC DV Widescreen, 720x480, 29.970.

Everything looks just fine within Vegas with my production monitor on widescreen mode.

BUT What render settings do I use so that people will look as they should on a widescreen monitor?

NOTE*** I should add that my production monitor is 4x3 but with a 16x9 setting, which I used while editing.

I tried using the same rendering setting as the project, but people looked wider on my production monitor while in the 16x9 setting.

Hello KD:

Here is a print screen of the render template that I use:

My DVDs look fine in terms of horizontal and vertical proportion. Have you tried viewed a finished DVD on a television?

You can search the Forum for all the discussions about converting HD to SD, but a horizontal distortion doesn't seem to be an issue.

Hope that helps.

Check your pixel aspect ratio, I suspect you don't have it set to 1.212
