My boss needs to play back a video I made at 2x speed. As soon as I go past normal speed, the audio drops. Is there a special format I need to use? Does his computer need something special installed? Is there a certain player that will do this?
We've tried WMP and VLC, but the audio cuts out on both.
WMP depends on file format, as to what it can do - I've certainly played movies at 2x with audio and video remaining in sync (ie, both at 2x).
Media Player Classic also works for this.
Here's a way you can do it and it will work with any format.
You need to put your AVI back in the timeline
Then, take your mouse icon to the very end of the clip, when you see a square icon as you hover your mouse at the end of the video clip, press and hold your Ctrl button. You will see a wavy line under the square. Continue holding Ctrl and drag your clip shorter. Make the clip Approximately 25% shorter, you can experiment with making it even shorter, but at 50% it will play at double speed and that was too fast to understand the speech. (Divide time of video before altering into fourths and deduct 1/4 off total time to get an idea of where to stop dragging edge of video)
What you want to do is when you get close to the 25% shorter length, then right click on the video and check the properties. If the playback rate says 1.500 to 1.750 this may be good. (Do not bother writing in the number to make the change or it will make the audio go out of sync, you have to drag as described above)
Next, right click on the audio and select properties. You will see the original length of the clip and the new tength and the difference in pitch. Unclick the box that says "Lock to Stretch". This will keep the pitch normal, yet playback will be fast.
The Video playback rate of 1.500 I can understand the speech and you can probably nudge it a little higher, this will take experimenting to find the fastest playback that you can still understand (my guess is up to about 1.750)
Just remember, you have to drag the square icon with wavy line, to keep audio and video sync'd. (also, if you hear lots of digital weirdness because of trying to maintain normal pitch, the "Stretch Attributes" dropdown has other choices to help it sound better. This is in the Audio properties under the "Lock to stretch" box)
Now rerender your WMV or MPG2 & AC3 or whatever, from this new setting. You may need one at regular speed and one at fast speed to get both.
I don't know of anyway to just speed it up to your liking and still be able to hear it.
Hope this was some help
