Assuming you're talking about the render test .veg on the VAAST site, my 3.2 gig P4 Northwood can do it in around 1:22 with the "best" quality render setting.

There are 2 render tests....one is much longer than the other.
Results are here for the older rendertest.veg NOT the Betatest_Render_File.veg

The comparisons are interesting and seem to disregard ram over 512 megs and cpu's over 2Gh. in many cases.

Used to be that the Holy Grail was beating 2 minutes. Now I wonder how long until someone does it in under 1.

I usually get about a 1:33 using an Athlon 64 3200+ and 1GB ram.

My 2.8 GHz P4 Polywell gets only 1:44. That's about ten seconds slower than what would be predicted just by CPU clock cycle differences between Cline's 3.2 GHz computer and mine. Based on clock cycles, if I were to crank my CPU up to 3.2 GHz, I should get exactly the time reported by PH125.

The disk doesn't do much in this test, so I don't think that's it. Must be something to do with the way Cline's computer accesses memory. John, what's your secret?

Also, has anyone tried this test with dual CPUs?

Oh ya 1:28 for me, P4 3.2HT, 1G Ram

P4 2.4HT 512 Ram

I used to be able to tweak it up to 2.8 but voltage change causes my SATA drive to disappear. :(

"John, what's your secret?"

Well, I'm not sure. I have a 3.2Ghz Northwood P4 HT plugged into a Gigabyte 8KNXP motherboard. It uses an Intel 875P chipset and I have 1 gig of the fastest, low latency Corsair DDR400 RAM I could find. Otherwise, it's nothing particularly special. I don't have a lot of stuff installed on this machine and pretty much nothing running in the background, definitely no Firewall or AntiVirus software. I'll run the test again and make certain of the 1:22 figure.

John

(Update: Yes, it's 1:22.)

Just ran the render test on my newly buit P4 3.2 Prescott with 1GB of Corsair ram, P4P800-E delux and two Hitachi 160 GB video drives. Ran the test in 1:18
