Render Test Web Page - Calling all users

Howdy all. Please check out this web site and do the render test. Click on the Video Factory Stuff graphic at http://www.hanzek.com

This is for both Vegas and Video Factory users.
Big time thanks to Steve Hanzek for hosting and building the pages. The goal is to be able to compare your system to others, tweak as needed to get maximum render speed and once and for all find out what is the fastest system out there. We plan to add a FAQ system tweaking page as the results come in and information gets tossed about. Please use these Sonic Foundry forums to share information. Also make sure to follow the directions to the T, otherwise it won't be an accurate comparison.

Thanks for your time, hope your renders are speedy.

Note for Vegas users doing the test, new procedure info not yet on web site.

*** Vegas users need to set their Project Properties to render Video and Audio at Good setting.

File/Properties/Video -- Set "Full resolution rendering quality" to GOOD. Do the same under the Audio tab. This will hold for all test.

Also under Render As/Custom/Video tab (bottom) check the box for "Create an Open DML (AVI version 2.0) compatable file"

I'm all for this test- thanks fo rsetting it up.

How about always rendering to the "NTSC DV" avi template so we're all rendering the exact same thing- everybody cool with that?

Yes, the NTSC DV avi is the only avi I want to see used. But, the MPEG stuff is also helpful for the bigger picture of what CPUs are faster with that encoding engine. With all the benchmarks floating around the web, I believe this is the first to test DV avi and MPEG ligos. Do what you can, the more info the better.
As CC pointed out, YES you want to stretch the audio also. In the new VF2, audio follows the video stretch. In Vegas you need to do each one by itself.

I tried to cover all variables for setting up everyones projects the same. Down to the point of getting VF and Vegas the same. That is why there are more settings to adjust in Vegas. If I missed anything, please send me an email, mention it in this forum or post with your results in the comment field.

Side note, if you want to see how the Ligos engine chokes on some fx filters, load an HSL filter to that clip and watch the car turn from red to purple. Seems any filters with color adjustment don't render right to MPEG. Anything being done about this ?

Cheers,
Craig H.

You might want to create a .veg file with the test clip and the settings of the project for users to download also. The same would apply to VideoFactory projects. Just remember to include directions as to where to place the media. This will alleviate any missing media problems when users attempt to load the .veg file.

It would be nice if i could get the dv/avi file to even work after i render it.
As for the mpeg its fast but it sux.
Very lot of bad vid on high motion. The TMPGE converts mpg so much better.
