render time and on-board system RAM

For anyone who may be doing HD editting, I thought I'd post this bit o' trivia (?) Check the amount of system RAM being used by Vegas 5 by opening the Task Manager wiindow. While doing a slide show of TIF images captured directly from my digital still camera (3024x2016), my system and Vegas 5 virtually came to a standstill. Note that I like to keep the original image resolution so I can zoom in without image quality degredation. After looking at the amount of system RAM being used to load all the hi-rez images in the Media Pool, I noticed that my RAM usage was over 1.5 gig. My system only has 1 gig of RAM sticks installed. As soon as I exceed 1 gig, everything grinds to a halt because data has to be moved from RAM to the pagefile, which is VERY inefficient. With HD, I think the days where 512 gig of RAM was sufficient, is all but gone. Count on using 2 gig, or more, when processing hi-def images.

I understand your problems fully. I would hope someone knowledgable would recommend exactly what to due equipment wise and ram wise to fool around with HD. Large still pictures and HD really choke up Vegas. Its like trying to run through the ocean surf.
