I just bought a new canon hv20 and was playing with it today. I imported a clip 1080 60i and rendered it as a video for windows avi. For some reason I can not get the avi file to play using wmp. What am i doing wrong? Also.. what does everyoine here render thier HDV in.. I know with the old camera I use to always use avi so i wouldnt loose quality. Does the same hold true with HDV? Thanks!

I have tried every HDV template (all of the 720 and 1090i) avi.s all with the same result. The funny thing is when I render NTSC DV it works fine but looks obviously not HD.. the same as my old standard definition camera.. I also was able to render mpeg but again, quality is low. Thanks

http://www.cineform.com/products/Downloads/Downloads.htm

I would download/install the free Cineform NEO /HDV player about half way down the webpage.

Then render your footage to .AVI format using the "1080i-60 intermediate" template.

Play this rendered file with your Windows Media Player, and it should look great.

Thanks for the tip teakart... I downloaded the player but when I went to render the clip to avi 1080i-60 intermediate it said I did not have a cineform license for cineform HD rendering and directed me to thier web site to purchase the upgrade.... Is it included in Vegas pro 8 because I am thinking of upgrading. I currently use movie studio and I am now trying the trial version of 8 pro. is it worth it?

That may be one of the benefits of the Pro version - being able to render to the Cineform intermediate format compared to the Movie Studio version of Vegas, because its definitely included in V8Pro.

Give it a try with the trial Vegas Pro and I think you will have your answer along with your next expense! But its worth it to upgrade, not just for all the enhanced features but once you are familiar with and using the Pro version all future upgrades are usually less than $200 especially if you jump at introductory upgrade special pricing....which you will be offered with each new release. Welcome aboard...!

It sounds like you don't have the proper codecs installed on your system to play back native m2t files in WMP. You should probably install a codec pack. K-Lite is good, but includes so man codecs that you may not understand what you're installing. Anyone else have some recommendations for a good codec pack?

I was actually thinking seriously of upgrading to Vegas pro 8. I noticed B&H was running a special on vegas pro without dvda for 129. I was going to buy it and use the DVDA 4.5 that I got with movie studio... Sounded like a great deal.

I downloaded the trial and yep.. got the same error message as before. Unable to render.. refers me to cineform site for upgrade. Maybe the trial version doesnt include it? The otion is there on the pull down menue, but unable to render to avi. VLC does work.. but way too choppy to watch. I hooked up my HV20 for the first tiem to my HD tv through an HMDI cable and man.. I can see what everyone is talking about. Nice!!
