If it's all sourced from DV, then render to DV. Doing a second render isn't going to hurt the quality.
If you have lots of stills or other generated media, you might consider rendering to the 4:2:2 YUV codec as an intermediary codec, then render to the MPEG straight from that.

Thanks Spot my source is all DV and my last section of the project contains all digi stills. what are the benifits using 4:2:2 YUV codec at this stage for the stills..

Great book by the way I have just set-up my stills as you suggest in your book to eliminate flicker, because I have used a script with track motion and zoom.
I have been using vegas now for about 2 years and with this board and guys like yourself I am just beginning to be confident with it, I am now getting to grips with parent child composites..
