Render To New Track: How do I just render audio?

I've been "rendering to new track" as I've been going along so I can save myself a long render at the end. Here's my problem; I made audio level adjustments after I did the video/audio "render to new track". I also made audio level adjustments using the track envelope instead of the bus envelope. Now I only want to render the audio portion (because my existing audio rendered with the video was created before I adjusted levels). How do I do this? What format of audio do I want? .wav? Please help.

I'm asking this because it will take less time to render the audio than to render both the audio and video as an "avi".

Just render as a .wav 16/48 and put the resulting file on a new track and mute the original one(s) or solo the new track else you'll get a mix of the new and old tracks.
