Render to tape

Is it necesary to render the video to and DV AVI (720x480)
before playing it back to tape?
There is a program, Media Studio, that has a SmartPlay back
feature. You just select the apropiate codecs for audio and
video and the video is played to tape via 1394 with out re-
rendering the video, only the transitions.

the last time i tried media studio smartplay .. it could
NOT send the sound out the 1394 ... sound was played back
thru sound card .. for non (digital) dv cards it worked
like it says .....

i make quick dirty VHS copies from VV time line by
firewire to panasonic dv deck( only use the electonics) -
then dv deck to VHS deck .. run audio from computer sound
card to VHS deck ..
gives me a OK vhs copy to show others ...

Thanks db. I'm going to try it out.

In order to use the Smartplay on MS 6.0 you must install
patch 6.0.0.2 wich you can download from Ulead's WEB Site.
Before rendering to 1394 you must select the "DV Audio
NTSC" codec. It works really good and you can get very good
videos on VHS.

I really like VV much more than MS. It faster, I dont have
to wait for rendering to see how a filter or transition is
applied, the sound and video filters are better. But the
Smartplay is something I'm going to miss.
