render to .wav error

i'm trying to render a specific project to a .wav file (my other projects render fine) i get 69% through and get 'an exception has occurred'

sonic foundry vegas 4.0
version 4.0c build 184
exception 0xc00000005(access violation) READ: 0xFFFFFFFFFFFF
IP.....
In Module Vegas40k.dll....
thread audio5reader.....

i've removed all plugins from the tracks and from the busses and removed all muted tracks but i still get the error. there's a lot of splitting and moving of stuff on the screen so i'd rather not have to rebuild the project. is there a way to repair this file? or to figure out why it crashes? as i said, my other projects render fine.

if there are markers in the project, uncheck the "Save project markers in media file" opion in the "render as..." dialog when saving as .wav
