Render with alpha channel/ transparency

Hi there,

I am looking for a way to render a movie in a way that it still contains the transparent nature of the original movie I am using.

I assume that only some formats can contain transparency, like PNG in pictures?

The original video I am using is a MOV, so what should I do to render this video in an output that I can make transparent again using the alpha channel 'straight' setting?

I read some months ago - probably on this forum - that rendering to uncompressed avi will maintain opacity in video like with png in a still image. I tried it on a clip of only a few seconds in length that I was working on at the time which needed to maintain opacity - and thankfully it worked. The downside is that uncompressed avi renders are large.

I have also found a tutorial on Youtube to render a MOV with transparency, one has to pick the PNG video format :

I've done it and it works!

FWIW, you can render alpha in QT animation codec also. (At least in VP11)
