render woes

Okay. Just so I don't get blasted -- I have searched all old posts about crashing and rendering - so I know my problem could be heat related.

Here's whats going on. About two hours into my render my dedicated hard disk seems to drop off -- which aborts the render. It is brand new 320 GB of RAM.

1 GB
60 GB + 320 on the external.

What are you rendering to? MPEG is very likely heat related. avi wouldn't be. Try running a fan on the box if it's MPEG, see if that helps. I mean a big house-cooling type fan, not another computer fan.
