Rendered file (AVCHD) playback is choppy

I rendered m2ts file video using AVCHD template

Audio: 448 Kbps, 48,000 Hz, 24 Bit, 5.1, AC3
Video: 29.970 fps, 1920x1080 Upper field first, YUV, 16 Mbps
Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.000

First minutes of the file play fine, but later video playback gets more and more choppy, lots of delays, fast forward does not work etc.

Playback was tested locally on the power desktop and via network streaming (WHS to LG blu ray player) - the effect is the same

Please advise

The encoding is buggy. Simply don't export using Sony AVC, use Main Concept MP4. Much more stabler export, and it supports VBR, so you can get even better quality.

As far as I can see, Main Concept only allows AAC stereo sound.
Can you suggest how to get it rendered with AC3?
Or, is it possible to replace AAC with AC3 as a separate post-rendering step?
Thanks.

AAC at 256 kbps is virtually indistinguishable from AC3 on normal speakers.

In this topic whenever I used term AC3 I meant "Dolby Digital 5.1 AC3"
Is there an option for 5.1 AAC?

No, but in that case do you really need 5.1? I mean, shooting with a small camcorder is never the experience of a Hollywood movie in terms of surround. It's more of a marketing feature than a real one.

Just remux the rendered AVCHD file with tsMuxeR.

Well, I got underwater footage which is not sound-rich, but I don't want to loose it entirely. So I left this sound in L,C,R channels and added some background music in surround channels. It works pretty well for the viewers, but I bumped into technical problems: straight from VMS (1080HD+5.1) can only be rendered as Sony AVCHD .m2ts which has rendering issues (see %subject%) and playback problems on my hardware player: no fast forward of rewind.
