Rendered movie incomplete

I have created a 10-minute movie in VF2.0 with various edits - color/brightness, transitions, and an .mpg music soundtrack. It plays back fine in the preview window, but when I try to render it as an .avi file, it comes out as a 4 min 42 sec movie, though in Preferences it is supposedly a 2.2 GB file (which is approximately the size I would expect a 10-min .avi file to be). I tried rendering it three times, with the exact same result each time. What happened to the rest of my file? What am I missing?

[I have the Dell Premium Movie Studio Bundle, captured my footage through VideoWave 4, if that makes any difference. The rendered file plays in the VW4 Preview window and in the Windows Media Player for only 4:42. ]

Klavisha,

Any DV AVI file captured with VideoWave will have to be converted to MS DV type 2 files to be used in VideoFactory. You can use this free converter to do the conversion. It's fast and there is no quality lost.

(Oops, I meant .mp3 music, not .mpg!) I do have the Canopus file converter (thanks, VinceG, for the recommendation) which I use to convert the raw footage I've captured with VW4. The problem occurs after I've made my edits in VF2.0 and try to render my movie as a .avi file. The first thing I checked was to make sure I didn't have any looped regions marked - no, and the 'render loop region only' button is grayed out. Any explanation, or could it just be something wrong with my footage itself?

Klavisha!

I, too, am having the exact same problem as you! 4 mins 42 secs!!! Where the heck does that number come from??? Any video over 5 minutes I render to AVI (and I'm using Vegas Video) will only playback 4 mins and 42 secs on any player I use.

I tried Windows Media Player, QuickTime, RealPlayer and VW4. They all will only play exactly 4 mins and 42 secs!!!

This is too weird! Please let me know if you figure out anything. I have also posted this problem on the Vegas board to see if it rings a bell to anyone.

Good luck!

Bloody hell, Vince! Curses! I saw your note on the VW forum about the 4 min 42 sec and practically leapt from my chair! I had hoped it was something stupid I was doing and that you folks could solve my problem for me. In the meantime I'll follow the advice a fellow MGI forum user suggested of setting my VF preferences back to default and rerendering, but I'm not too hopeful. I guess I'll render my long videos in 4-min. chunks. Please pass on anything you get from the Vegas board, and if you do spring for the Canopus device, let us know how it works out.

Klavisha!

I fixed it!!! (Thanks to pl) This solution worked for me in Vegas. Hopefully it will work for you too in VF.

Go to Options>Preferences and press the "Default All" button on each tab: General, Video, Audio, etc.. Then press "Apply" and "OK."

Close and re-open VF. Re-render your video -OR- you can re-render the same avi file you previously rendered. When done, it should play perfectly at the right length in Windows Media Player and VW4.

Good luck!!!

I noted pl's solution from the "other" forum, and it has worked well. We're in business! Thanks for passing it on, Vince.
