Rendered videos drop audio partway through

I've got a lengthy home movie (2+ hours) that has hundred of clips (both video and audio) as well as soundtrack audio files, fades, cuts, the works. I have lots of experience with Vegas over the last decade and a half and have made at least two dozen movies of our travels before with various versions of the product (currently using Vegas Pro 20). But with this project I'm experiencing the strangest error. The video renders perfectly; no crashes (which is great; I typically need to give it at least a couple of tries). But the audio will begin playback properly and then at some point in the movie ranging from 37 minutes in to an hour and a half in, the audio will go silent and stay that way for the rest of the rendered movie. Each try I identify the particular audio place where the movie went silent and adjust the source clip (it usually happens at the end or beginning of a clip) and then render again. This works for the particular issue as the next render does not go silent at that spot....but does on some other clip. I've now rendered the lengthy movie 10 separate times, duplicating the error in different spots during each render. I attempted to do a small render of just 10 minutes from late in the timeline and it worked just fine. Simply seems as if Vegas is choking on the audio at some point each go. I'd hate to keep attempting 10 more renders without hope of fixing the issue.
Has anyone experienced something strange like this and resolved it?

Hi Tombaugh,

I just have discovered your post. I experience (really) exactly the same issue, working with Vegas Pro 22 though. I have made so many tests, played with parameters etc (see link below). But no idea why this happens. So curious if you have found a solution ? Seems that not many people are facing this issue... Makes me so angry!

Can you render an audio-only PCM and/or an AAC file without the issue?
If so and as a temporary work-around, you could mux in the audio only file

Yes, tried that of course. Tried audio only with different formats (incl. flac). But problem remains. In the meantime I am sure that this is bug inside Vegas which however is somehow related to my individual pc components.
