Hi guyz,

yesterday i evening i was rendering a little movie i made ( +- 40 sec.)
when i vieuwed the result the file was 390 mb :D wich is a little large :D
So i tryed a bit with the settings and the i got a file of 190 mb good qualety ;)
but that still way to large for me.. so i droped the settings again and then i got a file of 90 mb wich was real crap qualety ...

so i coudn't get good qualety, like i've seen other people have. i recently wached a .mov from 25.mb ... and it was like 5 minutes of good qualety film.

Btw i used the multimedia set wich renders the .mov on a size of 320 by ??? . so its not that i'm rendering a full screen movie!

I hope you people are able to read my english ;)
and are able to help me .

Thanks in advance !

Zero.

First, why Quicktime? It sucks unless you have high bitrates.
Second, use the Quicktime template using Sorenson V3, with a screen of 320 x 240, frame rate of either 25 or 29.97. This should be quite small in file size, and give you reasonable quality.
If you're comparing your render to what you see on movie trailers or what you see on apple.com, you should know that those are more or less hand compressed by compressionists. A simple software encode isn't going to give you that quality.

Quicktime is the WORST way to present a movie on a website. not only have I been crowing this for years, but just this month, Quicktime Lover Ben Waggoner, who has more or less HATED Windows Media, did a very deep, lengthy article in DV magazine in which Quicktime didn't even rate compared to Windows, Real, or other delivery formats.
Get DV, October issue. You'll be making Windows Media...

Not only that, but the codecs that Quicktime makes available to outside programs like Vegas seem to be hobbled somewhat. If you want a quality Quicktime file, render to avi then do the conversion in Quicktime Pro directly. It will be noticably better. Still not as good as one of the Windows media formats though.

Not only THAT, but...

Have you tried to download QT lately? You HAVE to download and install iTunes to get the free version. You don't even know if you're getting QT, because the install is basically an iTunes process. It had me scratching my head, so I wouldn't doubt it will make some consumers abort entirely.

I used to be a Real Player fanatic, until they turned their "free player" into a 14-day trieal of their $10/mo. player. I spent two months answering emails from customers & clients who couldn't find the REAL free player. That's when I switched to wmv and haven't looked back. Not one complaint.

I recently started posting video on my web site. Initially I could not get GOLIVE to work with anything except quicktime and had to upload those large files.

After I learned to use windows media player with GOLIVE, I was not happy with the rendering results from Vegas. The quality just was not what I wanted. I bought Procoder Express and now have good luck with the quality and keeping file size reasonable for windows media files.

As the previous posters have said - windows media is the way to go.

The full standalone Quicktime Download does not appear to have iTunes in it. There were also two options on the main page for 98/ME/2000/XP: one without iTunes and one WITH iTunes. My big question is: Will the 6.5.1 version currently available do anything for me that the currenly installed 6.0.3 won't?

Maybe they changed it. A few months ago, I couldn't find a standalone and had a few other people complain about it as well.

I agree with Spot. I can't stand QT. I'm also not thrilled with how Vegas renders it, either.
