Rendering: an error occurred & reason.............

I'm sure you have heard this all before, I have looked into the problem but am still in a pickle. Rendering on my newly installed Vegas 11 pro (64 bit build 683) on my new i7 3770k, with 16Gb RAM and GTX570 GPU is not happening.

"an error occurred and the reason for this error could not be determined"

I record 1080 50p files and like to render as either mpg 2 or mp4 files.

If I select any mainconcept mpg 2 templates and customise to 50 fps progressive I get the error message.

If I select Sony AVC templates and customise to 1080 50p with 5.1 audio I get the error message. In fact the only way I can render 1080 50p files is without audio as mp4's.

I have read a whole host of posts about turning off GPU acceleration in preferences and also in the customise template section under encoding mode, but although good for many, it makes no difference to me. I ensure my project properties match the render properties. I've made sure rendering threads are set to 8.

In fact I have spent the last 4 hours changing each little parameter but still get the same errors. It is seeming impossible to render my 1080 50p footage. My version 10c managed it so I hoped my new PC with new upgraded Vegas would be better. I've come unstuck.

Any suggestions would be so gratefully received. About to get the hammer to fix once and for all!

have you tried 'compatibility mode' as in a number of other threads here?

I have just tried that. Although it was kind of greyed out saying Vista, I changed to Windows 7 but unfortunately there is no change to my issue.

On reading so much about this it seems many have issues with 11pro, but mine seems to be totally disabling not being able to render any sort of video in 1080 50p in any format I'd use....

Any more suggestions are much appreciated - I suppose this will be a trial and error thing.

my only other observation is there are quite a few cases (incl myself) where rendering to a mc mp4* just doesn't happen - error message comes up.....

can't remember if it's a custom setting or presets as well.

not near pc at the moment to test...

only tested a couple of the templates (blu ray) and they seem to work OK. Just seems as soon as I customise to 1080 50p it doesn't like. The templates are all interlaced which I thought would be more problematic rendering from progressive footage.

All my footage is 1080 50p and the project properties are set as this.

You said you tried MainConcept MPEG-2 and Sony AVC. Didn't you try MainConcept AVC? This works fine for me.

with mainconcept AVC I just get a load of tablet/internet templates. I have customised one of these to 50fps and it renders OK. But I don't seem to get the audio option of 5.1 surround. Is this what you get?

It does render OK though.

I also tend to play my footage back on a ps3. I find the mp4 footage always looks less smooth motion wise compared to the mpg2 format. Also sometimes the sound can be a little out of sync. This is why with pro 10 I stuck with mpg2 which gave results I was extremely happy with

Shame a new high performance pc and a new version of Vegas seems to be such a backward step.

Anyone have any further ideas? I've emaile Sony Vegas tech support and am awaiting their reply, although I'm not holding my breath. Forums tend to be a far better source of info in my experience

Any one else had responses from Sony regarding this problem other than to turn off GPU acceleration as this is no use to me
