Rendering and codecs

I made a 14 minute video I have successfully rendered and put on DV tape. Quality is excellent. The total size of the avi file is 3 gb. When I tried to put it on CD using make a movie wizard, the quality was awful, totally pixilated. What is the best setting, codec or whatever, to get good quality for a file that size on CD? Also, I need to get it on VHS, too. Will the avi file go to VHS? Or am I better off going straight from my DV tape or rendering another version for direct taping from PC to VHS? I have my VCR connected to my PC already.

If you have printed to DV tape successfully, your best bet is to make a VHS dub right from the DV camcorder.

What about getting it onto CD? What codec should I select?

Windows Media looks good and renders quickly- that would be my pick.
