Rendering and Printing to DV Tape

I thought I had this down pat but apprently not! I've got DV footage captured at 720x480 which I'm using in my project. I've added in some generated media in spots and set the dimensions to 720x480 but when I render MP2 using 16:9 there's balck space to the left and right of the generated media. I've had to increase it's size to 873x480...

Would very much appreciate if someone could point out a few basics!

When you first create some generated media, it takes on the current project settings, but if you change your project settings later, the generated media doesn't automatically change. You can change the generated media settings at any time yourself, in the media properties dialog, which you did when you made it wider. You could have also adjusted the pixel aspect ratio to 1.212 and left the width at 720.
