Rendering and Template Questions

Hi all,
I'll try to make these questions as simple as possible.

*My Goal, burn vacation dvd that will play on home dvd player. THis video will be about 43-45 minutes long ttl.

*Clips were downloaded from my Pansonic gs65 camera via firewire to computer in AVI format.

*project complete in Sony Movie studio.

*will be burning on Sony and Verbatim dvds at the lowest speed. I have had super luck with both media and will use Sony Architect 3.0 for burning. tHE FINAL PRODUCT WILL BE FOR FOR STANDARD SIZE TVS, NOT WIDESCREEEN.

Questions....

1. When i Click on "render as" many options come up. I know (or do I???) that I will chose " Main Concept mpeg-2". Can this be confirmed?

2. Template. Exactly what template would give me the best quality
for MY application? Someone said 640/480 which is the default but I tried one at 720/480 (dvd ntsc) and this actually looked ok on my tv (I didnt watch it all though). THe file size on the 720/480 was larger so does that mean its better?
3. In sony architect I got a error on the 720/480 burn that said it would have to compress the audio (unlike the 640/480 with no errors).

4. Would another option be to save as a AVI (with the only choice "windows for AVI") or would this be not be a good move?

That you for all your help and guidance, I tried to do a search on the topic of templates and could not come up with much.
Regards,
John

1. You export two files for DVD: one using the right NTSC DVD mpeg2 template (4:3), and the sound as "AC3".
2. For project properties you must use the already included template of 720x480, NTSC 4:3 DV.
3. Export in AC3 for sound, as said above. The mpeg2 export does not include sound.
4. Naah, just use the mpeg2 template and see where that gets you.

Eugenia,
thank you for your fast respose, it is much appreciated. I am a little confused over some of your advice though.
1. I export as mpeg2 (which does automatically save it as two files (i have no idea what you meant by AC3). If I click on the media file in Architect it automatically brings the sound file in.
2. For template I can choice DVD ntsc (it does not mention 4/3 dv). You mentioned "project properties", was that to mean template or is this another setting that may be tweaked?

3. "Export as AC3 for sound". nowhere can i find this reference in my choices. Movie maker does not have a option of saving sound files as far as I know.
4.I will use the mpeg-2 as you suggested.

So it is agreed that I should use mpeg-2,, but the template is in question due to the understanding terminology barrier between us.
I assume that the DV NTSC choice would be correct (i hope).
I am still confused on the sound issue and the confirmation that 720/480 wound be better than 640/480 for my goals.
Once again I thank you for your help and patience.
Regards,
John

If your mpeg2 export also exports AC3 audio, you are fine.

The Project Properties is what the name says. It is where you tell Vegas what kind of footage you got. Just select the NTSC DV template there too.
