Rendering AVI on XP stops at 6 minutes

I've got a 40 minute veg project. Tried twice to render to AVI. The following Sony Error Occurs: "An exception has occurred." Any idea what this might be?

There are three photos that aren't jpgs that seem slow and cumbersome. Could those photos be hanging up the render?

The images are towards the end of the project. Not at that 6+- error point. Any ideas? Need to render today! Thanks for your help...

Its more likly to be a problem with the sound track from my experience, but there are a lot more members on this site that know a lot more than me.

I would try a render with out the sound track and see if that works. Have you got any fx's at that point.?

I had put together about 20 photos on the timeline and used some effects and transitions on them that would crash Vegas everytime. I tried everything, reduced the size of the images, took out some effects, took out the audio, etc, and still the crash occurred. I even tried to reload Direct x and the video drivers but no dice. I finally quit and built another veggie with no stills. I have an Athlon 64 xp 3000 cpu and an MSI board with the latest bios.

Possibly a hard disk issue. Are you rendering to a dedicated media drive? Do you have adequate disk space allotted for the rendered files? Do you have adequate disk space allotted for Vegas' temporary files? Is your hard disk more than 75% full or in need of defrag?
