Rendering Black Generated Media?

Good Morning, I'm trying to render a grid overlay with 3 black horizontal lines, and 6 black vertical lines, defining the borders of 10 boxes 130 x 216 x 5, made with generated media. I want to use this grid to position my track motion videos easily inside the safe areas and evenly spaced in the preview window. I have tried most of the 2D composite settings with no success. Any ideas on what I am missing? Thanks in advance, John.

Hmmm. I've read this several times and i can't see that you state what the problem is, other than something seems to not be working. Can you explain what you want to have happen that isn't happening in more detail? You way what you want to accomplish and what you are doing, and it seems like that should be fine. What we don't see is what is going wrong. Once we see that we can probably offer some help.

The results seem to be of two types.
1. Only pieces of the grid render or only one line or;
2. the render is totally black, and the grid does not show with a video on a lower track. I'll post the veg to Cworks veggies. Thanks, John.

Finally got this to work.
1. Open project 01. Build the grid. All tracks set to source alpha.
2. Insert a solid color, I used white, Gen Media for the final track.
3. Render as ntsc dv.
4. Open new project 02 and import grid rendered clip and videos. Add to TL with grid render on first top track.
5. Set the grid track composite to 'Overlay'. Also chroma key out the white background at the track level. Leave the video track composite set to source alpha.
6. On the grid render track, click the Automation settings 'gear' icon, and click 'Show automation controls". Then adjust fader to match color levels to match original video.

To those of you with more experience, is there an easier way to display the grid as an overlay? This seems way to involved and, I assume will shoot render time of the final project with the track motion videos to the sky.

I still haven't figured out why it won't render as a grid without adding the colored background. Also could not determine how to add an alpha track to the grid build project, which may solve the problem. Thanks, John.

Well, i tried your .veg and it seemed to render perfectly here. I've uploaded the results along with your original file to http://www.vegasusers.com/testbench/veggies/jmac-ten_windows_for_track_motion_01.zip
Included are a 5-frame long .avi file and a .png file. You can use either one on your timeline.

Personally, i probably would have just drawn this grid in any handy photo editing software and saved it as a still image file rather than trying to make it in Vegas. Just a personal preference though.
