Rendering/File size limits?

I've noticed that when I'm Rendering a long file, or just capturing media for that matter, the file breaks off into a new one at around 18 minutes in length. Is this a standard function of Vegas or is there a checkbox somewhere for this to maintain consistent file sizes. I can't find reference to it in the manual.

Sounds to me like your hard drive is formatted for FAT 32 instead of NTFS. FAT 32 gives you file size restrictions so it will chop up your video once it reaches the max size. I would set your drive to NTFS and you should solve this problem.

I think FAT32 has a 2gb or 4gb limit on certain file types.

I'm using NTFS here and once selected the wrong template and ended up with a 4-and-a-half minute video rendered to an 11 gigabyte AVI. Ouch!

A drive formatted with FAT32 is limited to a maximum file size of 4GB, which works out to be about 18 minutes in length for DV avi files. Aside from the bookeeping hassles of tracking multiple files, it's no problem when working with Vegas at all. FAT 32 is used with older Windows systems. Windows XP gives you the option of using NTFS, which does not have that limitation. You can convert a disk from FAT 32 to NTFS within XP, or you can use a program such as PartitionMagic.

That would make sense as it's running in Windows 2000.

Thanks!

Windows 2000 also has the option of using NTFS allowing larger file sizes. Check to see how the drive is formatted and, if it is FAT32, change it to NTFS and you should be done.
