Rendering for DVD

This will sound basic but I think my way of doing things is to long so putting my pride aside I have to ask this.
I have always rendered my projects to an AVI file and I then dragged that AVI file into the DVD Architect which then I saw that the files were being rendered again, thus making the whole process a very long process.
My question is this, should I render my files to another format so that the DVDA doesn't have to re-render them?
Thanks

I always render to MPEG2 and AC3 if I’m going to DVD. (which is all I do these days). Not only is it quicker (there is only one render) but the color results are slightly better for generated media. This is because the color space of MPEG2 (4:2:0) is greater than DV25 AVI (4:1:1). Of course it does nothing to improve the original DV footage but it certainly doesn’t hurt.

I use the MPEG2 template DVDArchitect NTSC video stream for the video and AC3 template Stereo DVD. If you keep the filenames the same and have them in the same directory, when you drop the MPEG2 file into DVDA it will pull in the AC3 file automatically. I haven’t rendered to an AVI file in quite a long time.

Just to make sure I understand
I need to render my project to MPEG-2 and than RENDER it to DOLBY DIGITAL (AC3) correct?

Yes, or use a batch rendering script to do it in one pass. (Tools > Scripting > Batch Render)

Johny
Just to make sure, when I draged the mpeg and the ac3 file into DVDA and then went to "Prepare the DVD" it informs me that the video will be recompressed.

Aerie, follow the steps you took to render the mpg2 except when you have to choose what file type to render to, choose DOLBY DIGITAL . Just so you know, the sound renders VERY fast.

How big is the MPEG2 file? You can get about 1hr 30min on a DVD using the standard template. If it is telling you it needs to recompress, then it must not be able to fit the entire MPEG2 on the DVD. Are you going over the 4.7GB limit?

In Options > Preferences > Burning do you have the Space available on media set to 4.70GB?
