Rendering interlaced crashes Vegas 8.1

Hello,

Me and a group of friends recorded some footage using two XF100 Canon. The cameras settings were:

- 50i fps
- 1920x1080 pixels
- 50Mbps

The created files are .MXF. Importing them was easy and editing was quite peacefull, considering their "weight".

My workstation is a i7 QuadCore 3.4 GHz with 8GB RAM, and my editor is Vegas Pro 8.1. Actually i edited with 8.0c but when i started the rendering process i started to have some issues so, i decided to install the 8.1 version as a way to have more RAM available for the rendering process.

I´m rendering the video using MainConcept AVC/AAC codec. The issue is, if i select no field order (progressive scan) i get no problems rendering, but if i select interlaced (upper field first), at a certain point (+/- 10%) a panel shows up with this message:

"Sony File Surrogate Interface (not visible) stopped working.
A problem made the program stop working. Close the program."

After closing it another panel shows up with this message:

"An error occurred while creating the media file...
Error 0x800706be (message missing)"

Can someone please explain me what is happening?

Thank you in advance for your attention to this subject.

8.1 was never stable according to many.
OTOH 8.0c is rock solid on my system.

The "File Surrogate" issue is likely a Quicktime problem.
You MUST have Quicktime version 7.6.2 or earlier installed to work with Vegas Pro 8. Later versions are not compatible.

RAM is not as big an issue in rendering since it will probably end up depleted anyway.
Best thing is to close and reopen the application before rendering to flush the redo buffers.

Hello musicvid,

First of all, thank you for your answer.

I agree, Vegas 8.1 is not very stable at all.

I followed your recomandation and replaced QT v7.6.9 for v7.6.

I tried again to render interlaced with Vegas 8.1 but with no success, i get the same message. I uninstalled 8.1 and reinstalled 8.0c and repeated the interlaced rendering process, but also with no success. This time however i don't get the previous error message, just that "Vegas closed inexpectedlly".

So, it is not Vegas 8.1, it is not QT 7.6.2, and it is not RAM issue (i monitorized it). Any other sugestions?
