Rendering Movie with Alpha

So I have a movie that should have some transparency because
I can see the bottom layer through all of my tracks. I mute the
bottom layer and then render to HuffyUV with the alpha switch
turned on. I import the resulting video into another project and when I
fiddle with the alpha switch in properties I can't get the transparency back.

I think this is because Vegas defaults to flat black with zero transparency as
an invisible lowest track. How do I get this thing rendered minus the over-all black.

Did you check the "Render alpha channel" box in the Video tab when rendering the first one?
I don't know what HuffyUV is, but as far as I know, the only way to get alpha is to render as an uncompressed AVI.

I believe Quicktime .mov files can have alpha too ( can't remember which codec I used though )

Just now I looked through the quicktime stuff, and found an "Animation" setting that had a choice for 32bpp.... That seemed to render the alpha properly (still had to set the channel in the properties dialog when brining it back in to vegas though).
