rendering mpg crash - fixed

I'll will post this here for the benefit of others who may run into problems. I had a heck of a time getting my system running again. Ran fine for 6 - 12 months, then everytime I tried to render an mpg, Vegas would crash. Most of the time it would render a 30 minute avi, but would crash within minutes of trying to render an mpg.

The original system config was an AMD XP2000, Win XP home, 512 MB ram, Gigabyte GA-7DX+ motherboard, 300watt power. It was all new equipment, so my first thought was a software conflict from new software I may have installed (antivirus, video drivers etc.).
I tried everything, reinstalled Windows, reinstalled Vegas, etc. Still no resolution. I ran across a post here describing the Prime95 free testing software. Ran that and within minutes the test failed. So I figured it was hardware. Tried a different power supply, memory, video card, and finally discovered the problem was the processor.
Replaced it and now we're cookin' again!

I had tons of rendering problems before. Everytime I would go to render something I would cross my fingers that it would complete. I read a post that said to check the BIOS for processor speed.

I have a p4, 2.4GHz... but the BIOS was set at 2.6GHz. I lowered the setting to what it should be and I've not had a render crash since. --Over Clocking NO GOOD! Just to be fair, the guys at SoFo did tell me to monitor my processor temperature. I was told that with it running as a 2.6GHz that the temperature WOULD have been higher. Fact or Luck? I don't know, but it seemed to have worked for me.
