Rendering Multiple video tracks

Hi Everybody!

I am using Vegas Pro 8 and have created a project with a large number of audio and video tracks.

In normal editing/preview mode, I can see all of the video clips. However, when I render the project, only a few of the video tracks are visible.

What is the difference between normal preview mode and render mode?

Thanks in advance!

Mark

This is kind of fundamental but I'm assuming you have little experience with video editing -- excuse me if I'm misunderstanding the question.

The process of rendering is done normally to combine all the audio and video tracks into a single file for viewing on the computer or to use as media in some other program that would output to a DVD or other format for viewing. It is not a mode but a computer process. Vegas does show you a preview of what is being rendered as a way of keeping track of where you are at in the render but to see what the render has achieved you must play the completed render in some media player.

I think where Mark is perhaps getting confused is on the timeline you see thumbnails of what's in each track. That's not you video output nor what you're creating. What the rendered output will look like is in the Preview Monitor / Window.

Thanks for the responses.

To clarify my comments, I can see the video in the preview window while in normal editing mode.

When I render the project, some of the video clips are black.

I started a new project today and added only one ofe the problem video clips. The behavior is the same. So I can now point to my video clip as the problem.

The example problem video clips are .flv that I have converted to MPEG4 clips.

So what is the best format to import into VEGAS Pro 8? Some of my source clips are .flvs from Youtube.

DV AVI is what Vegas performs best with. Alternately you might want to try the Huffyuv codec which is lossless. Since FLV files are already highly compressed, this will eliminate compressing them more until your final render.

Thanks JR,

I found a FLV to DV convertor and will test it later today.

Regarding the Huffyuv codec, it is a .dll and I ran the install process. Now, how do I use it? What program would I call it from? (Vegas Pro 8?)

Thanks for the help!

I converted from FLV to DV and it resolved my issues.
