Rendering/printing multiple Vegas projects for single DV movie, DVD.

Forgive me if this post seems to cover a lot of the same ground as another a few places below, but my question has a component not specifically covered in the other that I thought warranted a separate post.

I'm doing a long dance recital video (3 cameras, a LOT of media) that includes a brief documentary on the front end. The total length of the project will probably end up in the region of 2.5 hours. I will be offering it on VHS and DVD to clients.

For length and other reasons I won't detail, it was necessary to edit the project in sections, and I decided on 4, one section -- or Vegas project -- for each act of the recital. Now I'm at the stage of needing to print to DV tape and render to MPEG II the first two acts so that I can delete those projects and media and make room for additional captures for the 3rd and 4th acts. It's easy enough to do this for DV.

My question is in regards to rendering to MPEG. I've done a lot of title and special effects segments in Boris RED and have imported those sections into Vegas as uncompressed AVI files to maintain as high a quailty for them as possible. I would really, REALLY like to avoid compressing the titles to DV (which I've found can do not-so-nice things to titles) and then recompressing them to MPEG II for the DVD. So I'd like to render everything from the Vegas timeline straight to MPEG II.

That also is straightforward on its face. But I'm worried about how to combine all these 4 "little" MPEG files into a SINGLE MPEG file so that, when I'm in DVD Architect, I can place a single media object on the menu for folks to play the entire recital project from beginning to end without interruption, should they choose to do so. I will, of course, have menus where they can choose individual numbers within the recital. But I want through-play capabilities so that menus don't constantaly intervene after playing a section, and my understanding of DVD Architect is that the only way to do this is to have a SINGLE MPEG file that represents your entire movie.

So how do I do this in such a way that my files aren't compressed TWICE in the MPEG format? If I render each of the 4 Vegas projects out to respective MPEG files, my fear is that either Vegas or DVD Architect will RE-compress those if I then try to render them as a single, end to end MPEG file in either of those two programs.

Am I right about that, and, if so, what's the workaround?

Thanks for any guidance.
