Rendering problem

Has anyone successfully made a playable Blue Ray disc using Vegas?

I have a Sony HDR SR7, the files from which, when downloaded onto the computer, appear as M2ts files (some 9.68GB) I have used Vegas MS Platinum 8 to edit the footage and, following the instructions have used Main Concept MPEG-2 (*mpg) template to do the rendering. I have made sure that the project settings are constant ie HDV 1080-50i (1440x1080, 25fps) PAL.

When Vegas starts and during the course of the rendering it shows the title of the project as............mpg. But when complete I end up with a file..............m2t. The file size is 11.73GB.

When I open this file up in DVD Architect Studio (4.5C) to make a Blue Ray disc, the projected file size is shown as 3.9GB ie it wants to re-render the project and in doing so I assume that I will loose HD quality with it.

Can anyone please tell me where I am going wrong?

You may want to browse the "Pro", that is, just plain "Vegas" forum. I know that multiple people have successfully created bluray disks and described their experiences there. As I recall, they create the disk directly from the timeline in Vegas without using DVDA, but that may be faulty memory on my part. Also, it might be that you can only do it using the Pro version of Vegas. In any case, look there and you should get some hints.

DVDAS can't author Blu-ray discs (neither can DVDA Pro). Vegas Pro can create simple Blu-ray discs from the timeline, but that's all.

Most people over on the 'pro' forum seem to be using recent versions of either Ulead DVD Movie Factory or Ulead Video Studio to author Blu-ray (or Blu-ray on DVD for short movies) - there's several long threads on the subject.....
