I am very new to this. My son's 16th Birthday is on sat 6/10 and when I try to burn to dvd it states it's going to take over 12 hours to render. Have I done something wrong the movie is only 20 minutes long. PLEASE ANYONE HELP ME!!
Make sure that none of your video tracks have the compositing mode set to 3d alpha. Doing this makes your render take maybe 50 times longer! If you need to use this, you can, but just don't do it on a track containing any more footage than needs this effect.
There are many things you can do that will make rendering take a long time. Having track opacity less than 100% is a big rendering hit. Some effects such as smoothing and blur take forever. Multiple video tracks add up rendering time quickly. Even titles add quite a bit.
I suppose it's also possible you're using an old 800MHz Celeron computer too. That would certainly slow things down.
My advice is ... let it run. 12 hours isn't that big a deal in the long run. If you cancelled rendering and found out exactly what was causing it to take so long, made the necessary changes, and rendered again, you'd probably end up taking more than 12 hours to find what needed to be changed anyway. You'd also probably end up not getting the result you wanted. Heck, by the time i replied to your post you would have been over 50% done already.
