Rendering the timeline as stills

TheHappyFriar wrote on 1/29/2003, 8:28 AM
I'm trying to do some special effects to my video clips, but I need to manualy edit the frames in Photoshop 5. I know Photoshop can't open video files (at least not my version), so how can I export video from my timeline to individual frames? Or, what program can I use to convert rendred movies to frames (i'd prefer to do it from Vegas. In fact, the ONLY 2 complaints I have on vegas are the lack of sequenced frame export, and non-simple green screening. Can't stand premiere and those are the 2 main reasons i use it at work!). Thanks!

The free program Irfanview or VirtualDub will both export the frames from a video file.

Hi,

FWIW, I believe V4's scripting feature includes exportation of image sequences.

Can't you just position the cursor at the proper timeline position and cut and paste the frame from the preview window? I do this all the time when making thumbnails for DVD chapter buttons.

I would, but I need to export every frame in say, a 10 second clip.

Thanks for the software ideas's though: it will save me time!

If you got Premiere (and I know you hate it, like me...) it's possible to export a clip or sequence into Photoshop. I think you go under "File", then "export clip"...

I never tried Irfanview for this purpose but if I was having a clip I'd like to process, I'd sure try. Just to avoid Premiere...

Yeah, in prem just select still rather then movie.

FWIW, Corel Paint & Painter I think can open avi's, if that method works any easier for you, & Paint at least has scripting like P/Shop.
