Rendering Times

I have a PIII 850 with 384 MB RAM, Win2K. I was going to render a half-hour DV file to a compressed, smaller dimentioned format, but quickly cancelled when I realized it would take over 30 hours to render it. Is this normal? Any advice for rendering long movies? My goal is to be able to just view it with a WMP locally. Quality isn't a huge priority. It should be under 500 MB in size.

The Windows Media 8 encoder is pretty fast with PIII, and renders MUCH faster than MPEG (which I bet you are using). Consider putting a WMV file on the CD- looks great, compresses well.
