rendering times

Greetings,

It takes my P4,80gb,256ram, PC about 6 to 7 hours to render a 70 minute (700meg) MPEG1 VCD file. Is that the normal time to expect? Are there settings to speed it up without sacrificing anything. Seems long to me, but I have no experience with any other editing software to compare.

I defrag regularly too, so that hasn't helped..........

Thanks for any opinions or suggestions for additional speed.

Ken

Do you use a lot of graphics? Do you use a lot of transitions?

Actually your rendering times sounds about right. On my 1.8 gHz P4 w/ 512mb ram, it takes me about 2 hours to render ~10 minutes. I use a lot of graphics & some transitions. Some hints, try not to change global things once you've rendered (i.e. adding fx to a whole track, change the fx on a clip), that way you can keep some of the already rendered movie. Other than that, you can opt for lower quality rendering. Any other suggestions out there?

I've been watching another thread just after mine last night also titled "rendering times" with allot of good discussion. Seems the consensus is the graphics, etc. and the CPU. I've learned allot. Thanks!
