DVD's are MPEG2

DVD Architect 3 will take either MPEG2 or DV-AVI (or a multitude of other formats) but will convert everything that is not MPEG2 to MPEG2 for creating the DVD.

Just to expand on what Edward (jetdv) said and answer your question more directly. To render to DVD Architect so that no further rendering is needed you should render your video and audio as separate files (MPEG2 and AC3) using one of the DVD Architect templates. Use the following templates for NTSC:

Video: MainConcept MPEG-2 / DVD Architect NTSC video stream
Audio: Dolby Digital AC-3 / Stereo DVD

Of course if you are using PAL or Widescreen you would select the appropriate DVD Architect template but those templates are configured with no audio specifically for DVD Architect so that it won’t re-render anything. Likewise if you are using 5.1 Surround you should select the AC-3 surround template instead of stereo.

The key is to keep the filenames the same and DVD Architect will automatically pick up the audio and video together. For example, MyProject.mpg and MyProject.ac3 will tell DVD Architect that the AC3 file goes with the same named MPG file. When you drag and drop MyProject.mpg into DVD Architect, it will pull MyProject.ac3 with it. (you can also assign these separately)

Hmmm... this might be a problem between Sonic Foundry and Sony name space for rendering templates. You should be seeing the AC3 templates in Vegas 4. Not a big problem because Sony PCA is lossless and DVD Architect 3 will convert it to AC3 when it sees it anyway.

Vegas Studio 4 doesn't include an AC3 encoder. WAV is probably the best choice.

Oops, sorry. Didn’t see the word Studio there (good catch Kelly). You should really be posting the in the Vegas Studio forums. I just assumed it was the full version of Vegas 4. Does the DVD Architect that comes with Studio even support AC3? If not, then I agree with Chienworks, render the audio as a wave so DVDA won’t need to re-render. Otherwise it has to convert the PCA to WAV anyway. (why not just do it right the first time)
