Rendering to AVI, HDV 1080-60i intermediate

Is it supposed to be possible to render to AVI "HDV 1080-60i intermediate" without purchasing CineForm separately, just with Vegas Movie Studio Platinum?

Sony Media Software's technical support is giving me the runaround at this point, so I was wondering if I'm missing something here. Vegas Movie Studio Platinum comes with the ability to render with the CineForm codec - right? I get the error message "Activation is required. Your trial period has expired. Please contact CineForm support to activate your product."

Here's the latest message I sent to tech support... I have to say I'm disappointed with the bugginess of this software. Not only does it split the M2T files randomly during capture of HDV, tech support seems to playing the "pass the buck" game with regards to the included CineForm codec...

Any ideas how to eliminate this "trial period" error message?

Do you understand the problem? It's not a problem with third party software. It's a problem with *Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 6.0*.

I select the "Render As" menu item from "File" and then "Save as type: Video for Windows (*.avi)" and "HDV 1080-60i intermediate" from Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 6.0. Your company's software, your company's standard menu command. Freshly installed, but not working.

Your company's software gives me the error message "Activation is required. Your trial period has expired. Please contact CineForm support to activate your product." THIS MESSAGE SHOULD NOT BE DISPLAYED BY YOUR SOFTWARE.

If you don't know how to solve this problem, please forward this to someone in Sony Media Software's technical support who does. Do not try to get me to contact CineForm, as this is your company's bug, not there's. I bought the software from your company, not from Cineform.

Your software INCLUDES this codec. I'm frankly suprised you weren't aware of this.

I quote: "Platinum Edition includes support for 601/709 color spaces and the CineForm intermediate codec for high performance HDV editing. Export your high-definition projects back to your HDV camera or to delivery formats including Windows Media® 9 HD, Real Media®, and QuickTime®."

Please ask someone else in your department if you don't understand the problem, but don't ask me to look elsewhere for support. This is your company's software, and your company's responsibility.

Thanks.

All right, CineForm's tech support was very responsive and knew what to do immediately. Here's the solution, if anyone else runs into this.

Funny how Sony's tech support person didn't even know they licensed CineForm's codec in their software...

Assuming you uninstalled our trial version before installing your Vegas software, it's possible that a couple of files got left behind in the uninstall process. You'll need to delete these files manually.

On your system drive, go to "C:\Windows\System32"

Delete the files "CFHD.DLL" and "CFHD.INF".

Then reinstall your Vegas software.
