Use AVC/AAC.

Could you explain a little more why you suggest using the MainConcept one? Both it and the Sony codecs seem to produce that same type of output, at least on the surface. They both produce 720p AVC video with AAC audio.

Thanks.

The Mainconcept codec has a reputation of taking better advantage of the GPU (about 10% of it) on a pc. It can shorten render times a bit, but not drastically.

For consumers like us, the details in codecs don't matter that much. For pros, who often have special, dedicated hardware, cameras and capturing/broadcast devices all using the same codec, it can make a much bigger impact to choose the right codec which will enable them to edit and deliver their video report lightening fast.

Mainconcept plays better, everything else being equal.
Use Sony AVC for making BluRays.
