Rendering to MP4 - need a smaller file size

I am currently preparing videos of our church sermons to be placed on our website for podcast downloads. If I use the default settings on the mp4 codec, the size is still too large.
I am rendering the file at
Audio: 128 kbps, 48KHz
Video: 512 Kbps, 29.970 fps, 320x240

This makes the file approx 130Mb for approx 38 minutes.

I have tried :
Audio 96Kbps, 44.1 KHz
Video 192Kbps, 15.000fps
which reduces the file size to approx 60Mb however my iPod wont import it as it says it wont play, or the format is not recognized.

I am trying to use the same settings from the following website, as far as their video files are concerned, http://www.joycemeyer.org/OurMinistries/Podcasts/podcastdownloads.htm

What am I doing wrong?

I have tried both the Sony codec, and the MainConcept one.

Any help would sure be appreciated!

Use MainConcept AVC/AAC[*.mp4] for "save as type"
Use Template "Apple iPod 320x240"

Works fine every time for me. 42 minutes of video ought to take around 180 Mbytes. 20 something minutes is around 50 Mbytes at low data rate.

Stereo audio at 128kbps in AAC takes about 1 MByte per minutes. Mono will cut it down.

Don't use the main profile, just baseline if you go to custom. If the video is mostly "talking head", you can cut down the bit rate quite a bit.

Maybe what you want is "enhanced podcast" or basically slide show with audio?
