Rendering to new track

Can somenone help me with this? I want to render to a new track what I have edited so far. Should I select uncompressed avi? The file is huge and very jerky when I play it back. Is there any generation loss when rendering using the template NTSC DV?
The original footage was shot on MiniDV using an anamorphic adapter. Can I render a widescreen version of this footage onto an avi file? I have tried it wihout success, only getting 4x3 footage framed in a thick black border on top, bottom, left and right.
Thanks!

No, you should not render to uncompressed when going to a new track except for some fairly significant circumstances.
Render to DV-NTSC. No loss in resolution that's of any consequence.
Yes, you can render the footage to a 16:9 widescreen. Set your properties to 16:9/widescreen if you want this to be correct aspect on a widescreen monitor. It will be squished on a 4:3 monitor. Did you use your Pan/Crop tool to set the aspect ratio to 16:9?

Thanks Spot!
I got it working now. I was setting the properties of the project as 16x9 and exporting as widescreen, so actually I don't know what I was doing wrong. But I tried it today again with those settings and it works. It gives me, as you say, a squished image but that's fine.
Thanks again.
