Rendering to Windows Media File 8

Hello,

I have a problem. I have both Vegas 3.0 and Vegas 4.0 and after I installed Direct x 9 I could no longer render to a Media 8 file. On my XP machine on my desktop I eventually found this was the reason for the error as it was the only update I did not install from the windows update page. But having already done this with my laptop and no way to uninstall DirectX 9 I was wondering if there was any fix to this.

The error I get is:

"An error accurred while creating the media file Untitled.wmv.Error 0xc00d0bc2 (message missing)"

Like I said I don't get this message and all works fine unless I install Direct x 9. I don't mind saving the video to a Media 9 file, but so many people have not installed Media player 9 or the codec package that they can't view the video I produce.

Please Help.

Thank you, for your time,
Glenn

Even if you don't have WMP9 you can still view the files made for it, it will just download a small codec that takes like 10 seconds and then it will play the file without any problems.

I just installed Vegas 3.0 on my fresh, new Win XP setup and when I try to render to a Windows Media video I get exactly that same error!! Are users of Win XP no longer allowed to render v. 8 WMV files? Anyone know the fix to this?? Or, how do I add the ability in Vegas 3.0 to render to v. 9 ??

Thanks,
Howard

Try this utility for uninstalling DX 9.1:

With winxp pro sp1 (or another machine with newer install of sp2), dx9.1a, winmedia 9 (player, sdk, encoder), Vegas 3 & 4, have no problems at all rendering to wmv 7.1 -> 9, so would suspect a problem other then Vegas or DX9.1 as it's backwards compatible.

What might happen, and this is just a guess, is that the winmedia 9 encoding setup uses somewhat different core files in the windows/system32 folder then v. 8 - if you don't have the v 9 encoder installed, Vegas 4 install might change stuff so that the newer files are expected. DX shouldn't be involved I don't think.

Stuff you might try (if you didn't want to try & update everything) include re-installing the MS wmv8 or 9 encoder, using their new VCM to create an avi file using wmv8 for the video, rendering to avi & then using the MS encoder, bundling the MS codec update with your video and rendering to wmv9.
