Rendering Vegas files for power point?

I rendered a Vegas 6 project to an MPEG2 file. I can insert and play
the file in a presentation using Power Point 2000.

When I try to insert and play the file in Power Point 2003 at work it
won't play. It will play in the Windows Media Player, but not in
PP2003.

I thinking the problem is with the PC and not Power Point. Any idea's?

You may not have a codec on that particular machine?
I'd be using wmv anyway, powerpoint loves that format. Smaller, potentially better image.

I think DSE is right. You need an MPEG decoder to play MPEG.

This may not help you on this problem, but could in the future. I discovered this free "Producer for PowerPoint" recently. It's a free PowerPoint utility for creating video with PowerPoint and PowerPoint with Video. Quite cool actually and rivals the expensive 3rd party solutions.

--By the way, on the "Features" page it says it does support MPEG2 import into PPT.

The software overview here:
http://www.microsoft.com/office/powerpoint/producer/prodinfo/default.mspx

And loads of video tuturials and walk-throughs here from something called McMurry University:
http://cs1.mcm.edu/~awyatt/producer_projects/producer.htm

It does not get any easier than that. And it gives you the highest quality professional presentation for free!

DSE... Whats the best way to render a wmv file. MPEG2 quality seems to be so much better.

You mentioned, potentially better image with wmv so should I
use a template when rendering are special settings?

You can have much better quality/size ratio with WMV. It is a much more up to date codec. Try different setting by yourself.

"Tip of the day" :-) :

BTW, im my experience you can often solve wmv playback problems in PP by a simple installation of WM encoder.

Thanks, I'll try this tonight.

I recently bought OnStage DVD for Powerpoint - basically a plug-in for Powerpoint which allows you to run full screen DVD within Powerpoint without the usual faltering and grindingly slow performance that MPG2 induces in Powerpoint.

You can either burn the clips you want to use to DVD R or rip the vob files to a hard drive location and play them from there.

Much preferable to wmv in my opinion but doesn't quite work faultlessly - you need to add a long-ish fade to clips - otherwise you see the impact of Powerpoint slides moving on before the video has finished.

PS Regardless of what plug-in you might have to play MPG2, you generally need a suitable DVD player/codec installed on the machine you are using - otherwise it ain't gonna work...
