Rendering via MS DV CODEC

I'm trying to convert/render a few AVIs from Vegas's timeline, but using the Microsoft CODEC instead of Vegas's proprietary one (don't ask!).

No matter that I seem to be setting the preferences check boxes correctly and then restarting Vegas, the resulting output AVIs are identical in every way - they even have the problem I'm trying to work around.

Could it be that Vegas is being a smartass and detecting that it has no work to do other than copy the footage byte for byte? If so, how can I force this conversion?

To force recompression, add a brightness and contrast filter, preset: "reset to none", to the entire project.

Are you doing some kind of quality shootout?
