Rendering video & audio separately

I'm attempting to use DVD Lab to author my DVD, and it seems to want separate video and audio files. When I start the Make Movie wizard, that doesn't seem to be an option. Am I missing it, or is that ability not supported?

On a related note, if I have DVD Lab demux the mpeg files created by Movie Studio, it displays an error message saying the audio file is not supported by DVD. Anyone got any information on that?

I'm rendering NTSC 4:3 if that matters.

One of MS' rendering options is NTSC DVD Video stream - you have to rerender as a .wav file to get the audio (it's an advanced render option). If your DVD player can handle the audio in MPEG2 (it usualy works, though it's not supported in the NTSC DVD standard) you've got the option of demuxing in DVD Lab. Temporarily, this will use more HD space, but it produces a smaller DVD.

Are you sure you're rendering with a DVD template? I've never had any problems with DVD Lab demuxing my MPEG2s.

BTW, all DVD authoring programs need elementary streams, they don't always make it visible though.

Check the audio file for DVD Lab. It seems that it requires 48kHz and I think Vegas defaults to 44. I know I used to always have to modify my audio files when I used DVD Lab. Course, this is coming from memory so who knows?? I now find DVDA to be almost as flexible and a little easier.

It's the DVD standard that requires 48K, but that's what MS produces from a DVD template.

Thanks for the replies all.

I could have sworn I had selected DVD template, but I tried it again and this time DVD Lab demuxed the file with no errors. I will also try looking for the separate rendering options as Ian suggested.

The real question now, though, is do I go with DVD Lab (which is $100) or do I pop for the $30 upgrade Sony is offering for MS 4.0 and DVD Architect?
