Rendering Video with 5.1 Audio

I'm a long time user of Acid, but new to Vegas and DVD-A so this question my be simple. I've been able to mix 5.1 tracks in Acid and render them as AC-3. Then I can import them into a DVD-A project and encode them as music compilations on DVD. Works great, sounds great. Now I'd like to add my 5.1 mix to a video I'm working on in Vegas but I'm not sure the process. Should I:
a) mix in Acid, import ac-3 file to Vegas audio track, render and go to dvd-a
b) mix 5.1 in Vegas and render with video there?
I've been playing with this for a few days now and some things are confusing. I'm basically not sure of what kind of video format maintains DD 5.1 AC-3 encoding. Or am I totally off....do I import the video and audio separately in DVD-A??? Or do I render a Vegas video...import it into acid and render it all from there??? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

solved...in DVD-A, when you import media like an .avi file, you can then set the audio and video sources for that media item. Video of course stays the same and audio comes in as AC-3.
